Papula Acne, The Characteristics and How to Overcome It

Pimple papules are prominent, reddish-looking pimples, can be felt dense and painful, with no pus point at the top. Although it is annoying when inflamed, most papular pimples are not a serious condition and can be treated with simple treatments at home that are adjusted by doctor's recommendations. In general, acne occurs due to blockages, inflammation, and infections that occur in the follicles or oil glands in the skin. While papules are lesions on the skin in the form of solid lumps with a size of less than 1 centimeter. Just like acne in general, papular acne can occur in various areas of the body's skin.

Understanding the Causes of Papular Acne

Acne papules are actually easy to recognize, because of their dense and prominent shape on the surface of the skin. In contrast to pustules, which are pimples that contain pus, so they appear prominent white dots. The appearance of papular acne can be caused by various factors that affect the condition of the skin. However, common causes of papular acne are as follows:
  • Hormonal influences (puberty, menstruation)
  • Bacterial activity on the surface of the skin
  • Blockage of hair follicles and oil glands
  • Heredity
In addition, there are several other things that are known to trigger acne, such as undergoing treatment (hormone therapy, corticosteroids, or anti-seizures), the use of cosmetics that clog pores, patterns of care and cleanliness of the skin, and environmental influences (pollution and humidity high). Acne papules can occur together in adjacent locations. This can make it look like a skin rash. For example due to contact dermatitis, chicken pox, eczema, or fungal infections.

How to Overcome Papular Acne

In many cases, you can make simple efforts to overcome, or at least reduce papules acne effectively at home, namely:
  • Clean the face and body skin at least 2 times a day. However, avoid too often washing the acne prone skin, because it will trigger irritation and worsen the condition of acne.
  • Avoid touching, scratching or solving pimples themselves, this action can cause sores on the surface of the skin that may leave acne scars.
  • Use warm water and mild soap when cleaning the skin.
  • Avoid rubbing your pimples too hard when cleaning facial skin or body with acne.
  • Do not use lotion, make-up or fragrance in the area affected by acne. Also avoid using products that have never been used before.
  • Routinely maintain hair hygiene using shampoo, especially if you have oily hair types, and as much as possible avoid falling hair touching the surface of the facial skin.
If this method has not been successful, it can be considered to consult directly with a dermatologist. Some drugs that may be given are antibiotics, benzoyl peroxide and retinoids. Hormone therapy may also be beneficial for some women who experience papular acne due to the influence of hormonal related health problems. Hormone therapy that can be given is estrogen, progesterone (birth control pills) or anti-androgen drugs. Acne papules can cause scars on the skin, if not handled properly. For that, it is advisable to always maintain and care for skin cleanliness and maintain endurance, in order to prevent acne. In addition, avoid actions that can injure the papules pimples, and continue to undergo medication and skin care according to doctor's instructions to prevent acne and acne scars.
